The Central Asian Games (CAG) is making a comeback after almost two decades, QazMonitor reports citing Tengrinews.

CAG was a regional sports event held every two years from 1995 to 2005. The sixth Games were never held for various reasons, and after 2005 the event was abandoned altogether.

National Olympic Committees of Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, discussed the resumption of the Central Asian Games during regular sessions at the Association of National Olympic Committees General Assembly in Seoul.

According to the committee’s official statement, the countries agreed to develop a joint sports program with a plan of resuming the Games in the next two years. The host country and the exact date will be determined at a later time.

The parties also agreed to use Central Asian sports facilities on mutually beneficial terms for the purpose of preparation for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
