Deputy Head of the European Commission’s Aviation Safety Unit Peter Sorensen gave a positive evaluation of Kazakhstan’s implementation of the European model of flight safety in a meeting on October 20, QazMonitor reports.
The Kazakh side included Chair of the Civil Aviation Committee Talgat Lastayev, Director General of the Aviation Administration (AAK) Catalin Radu and AAK representatives. The European delegation, led by Peter Sorensen, consisted of the European Commission, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), and representatives of European Union member states in Brussels, Belgium.
Since 2019, Kazakhstan has looked to the European model of civil aviation regulation to raise the country’s flight safety level in the areas of flight operation, employee licensing, and standardization of AAK procedures. The Kazakh side gave a full report on the applied measures during the meeting.
The presentation also focused on the revisions Kazakhstan made to its current legislation that allows for the adoption of a new strategy for AAK funding.
The European side expressed their approval and support for the measures, highlighting that Kazakhstan has fully complied with European flight safety standards.
Now the authorities are shifting their focus to implementing a new financial mechanism and allocating AAK resources for sustainable flight operations in Kazakhstan. The European Commission voiced its willingness to provide assistance in this area, taking into account the positive update to Kazakh civil aviation’s organizational structure.
Reviewing the progress of Kazakhstan’s flight safety standards, European Commission representatives concluded that Kazakh airlines are no longer threatened with inclusion on the Commission's ‘black list’ or any restrictions on flights to Europe.
