Kazakhstan and Turkiye agreed to jointly develop a satellite-based communication system as part of their cooperation in the aerospace industry, QazMonitor reports.

The parties signed a Memorandum establishing long-term cooperation, which includes the creation of space technology for television broadcasting and remote sensing.

Bagdat Mussin, Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan, stated in his Telegram channel that Kazakhstan will increase the number of remote sensing satellites in order to create social and economic benefits for its citizens.

The minister did not fail to highlight the economic costs of launching the satellites, noting that optimal usage would be at only 10%. “In the modern world the costs associated with the sole ownership of satellite constellations bear economic risks," he said.

Splitting the cost burden with Turkiye seemingly follows a global trend of moving towards a sharing economy. "To use the satellite’s capabilities to the maximum, it is necessary to be able to build global sales at the level of all countries,” Mussin said.

The minister believes the success of the cooperation will provide an incentive for other Turkic countries to join in on the creation of a common satellite constellation.
