Meta and the Ministry of Education agreed on promoting educational content in the Kazakh language and teaching digital literacy to teachers and students in Kazakhstan, QazMonitor reports citing the Central Communications Service.

The meeting was held between the Minister of Education Askhat Aimagambetov and George Chen, Managing Director, Public Policy, Greater China, Mongolia, and Central Asia of Meta.

Aimagambetov pointed out that both teachers and students widely use Meta’s social media platforms. “Kazakh teachers actively employ social media,” he said. “For instance, a school faculty member created a Facebook group for teachers, with more than 180 thousand followers today.”

According to him, the primary content in such groups are posts where teachers brainstorm effective teaching methods and raise problematic issues.

He added: “Doing so, they popularize education and science, raising the interest of schoolchildren. Creating educational content in Kazakh will also be a priority for us. I hope that our collaboration will be fruitful in promoting educational content in the Kazakh language.”

George Chen, in his turn, offered to hold special trainings for teachers in Kazakhstan on the effective use of media and rules of do’s and don’ts in social media.

We have a special program to teach students, teachers, and parents about digital literacy. For students and their parents, Meta has educational materials about online safety. Сurrently, we have these online materials and resources in English, but we would be happy to translate and localize them into Kazakh.

In a concluding statement, Chen expressed his hope that various Meta platforms will become a safe place for dialogue between parents, teachers, and students.
