Two protected nature reserves in the West Kazakhstan region will receive support from UK’s largest nature conservation charity, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), QazMonitor reports with reference to the ministry of ecology, geology, and natural resources.

Vice-Minister of Ecology Aliya Shalabekova held a working meeting with representatives of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and the Kazakhstan Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity (ACBK) to discuss the implementation of the project to support the Bokey Orda and Ashyozek nature reserves.

ACBK and RSPB specialists have already conducted a comprehensive study of fauna and flora in the territory of the reserves. The results of the studies will be sent to the reserve employees for further monitoring.

As part of the work, several vehicles, field equipment, and communication devices were purchased and sent to the reserve.

The meeting concluded with the announcement of future plans to organize meetings with residents of nearby settlements as well as train reserve staff in data collection methods, organization of zoological studies, and management planning.

The representatives also agreed to cooperate and highlight the main achievements of Kazakhstan in the expansion of the network of protected areas at the upcoming Convention on Biological Diversity, which will be held in December this year in Montreal, Canada.
