Kazakhstan has been chosen to become the first Central Asian country to host a race in the premier class of the motorcycle world championship, QazMonitor reports citing MotoGP.

MotoGP announced yesterday that a five-year deal had been reached for the brand-new motorsport complex – Sokol International Racetrack – constructed just outside Almaty to hold an FIM MotoGP World Championship race starting in 2023.

"The region will be a new pitstop for MotoGP as the sport continues to expand around the world, engaging with new markets and fan bases," reads the statement on MotoGP’s official website.

Kazakhstan will also become the 30th country to host a motorcycle Grand Prix since 1949.
