President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev announced the date of the early presidential elections in Kazakhstan, QazMonitor citing the presidential press service.
The elections will be held on November 20, 2022.
The presidential decree has given tasks to the state and regional bodies to ensure the organization of the elections in a timely and concise manner: The Central Election Commission are to monitor the organization and conduct, the Government are to provide support on the organizational, logistical and financial level, and the mayors of Astana, Almaty, Shymkent and other regions are to compile lists of citizens eligible to vote.
In a national address on September 1, Tokayev proposed to hold a snap presidential election this fall and signed the amendment to introduce a single presidential term without the right to re-election.
According to the President, the new mandate falls in line with the ongoing implementation of comprehensive reforms under the slogan ‘New Kazakhstan’.
