Kazakhstan is 83% self-sufficient in food production, revealed Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC)’s representative Iya Malkina during a briefing, QazMonitor reports citing the EEC.
The number puts the country in third place in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Malkina added that the members of the Union have the ability to protect their domestic markets from internal shocks, noting that the production for the first half of 2022 increased by 1.5% in relation to the same period last year.
"Belarus is 94% self-sufficient, Russia is 90%, Kazakhstan is 83%, and Kyrgyzstan is 81%. In Armenia, the level is at 73%," concluded Malkina.
According to her, the level of food self-sufficiency in the EAEC overall is fairly high and reaches 93%.
