A new film by Kazakh director Emir Baigazin will be presented at the Toronto film festival from September 8-18, Qazmonitor reports citing Tengrinews.

Baigazin shot his film "Life" in a span of three years in Almaty, the Turkistan region, Aktau, and Thailand. The story revolves around Arman who finds himself tangled up in a string of events and people that shape his understanding of what life means.

"The idea and the story of this film came to me when I was preparing to shoot my first film exactly ten years ago. In spite of the difficulties which the protagonist has to face, I always thought this story was filled with vitality," said the director.

The main role in the film was played by Yerkebulan Tasynov. The first draft of the script was written by Emir Baigazin in Los Angeles after winning a grant from the Venice Film Festival ("Best Director" Horizons section) in 2018 for his film "The River".

"The River" also had its U.S. premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, where the film won first place in the critics' ranking from Screen International.

“Life” will be presented in the Contemporary World Cinema section.
