President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev paid a visit to the Presidential Hospital in Nur-Sultan where he was given a tour of the newly built Center of Nuclear Medicine and diagnostics unit, set to open in September, Qazmonitor reports referring to the press release of Akorda.

The launch of the new center will make diagnosing difficult-to-detect cancers, as well as cardiological and neurological pathologies possible at an early stage, and will significantly reduce the patient waiting list for testing. The services will be available to all Kazakh citizens who have a referral for treatment.

A notable feature of the new diagnostic unit is its positron emission tomography. The uniqueness of this imaging apparatus lies in the high speed of scanning and quality of diagnostics, which will exponentially increase the number of patient examinations from 3,000 to 7,000 per year. The machine is the first of its kind in the countries of Central Asia and CIS.

Other capabilities of the Nuclear Medicine Center include the cyclotron complex, which will allow the production of nine types of radiopharmaceuticals, eight of which have never been produced in Kazakhstan before.

During his visit, the president also toured the new cardio-diagnostic unit, which has 7 therapeutic departments for the treatment and rehabilitation of patients with complex diseases.

Tokayev concluded his tour by expressing hope that the new infrastructure will improve accessibility to healthcare and advanced medical technologies for Kazakh citizens.
