Kazakhstan's women's team entered the top-five country ranking after winning the last match of the 44th Chess Olympiad held in Chennai, India, Qazmonitor reports Vesti.kz.
The female players faced India-3 in the 11th round of the tournament and won 2.5-1.5. Zhansaya Abdumalik and Bibisara Asaubayeva won their games, while Ksenia Balabayeva played to a draw. Guliskhan Nakhbaeva was defeated by her opponent.
Team Ukraine won the Olympiad, followed by Georgia, India, USA, and Kazakhstan.
The Kazakh men's team climbed from 20th to 17th place after a 2-2 draw with India-3. Rinat Dzhumabaev won his match, while Alisher Suleimenov and Kazybek Nogerbek shared the points with their opponents. Arystanbek Urazayev lost the game.
Chess players from Uzbekistan became champions among men, followed by Armenia, India-2, India, and USA.
The combined scores of the women's and men's teams placed Kazakhstan at 8th in the overall ranking.
Kazakhstan's chess teams showed a spectacular performance throughout the Olympiad, with Bibisara Asaubayeva receiving the award for "Best Female Chess Player of Asia 2021" in the ceremony before the final rounds of matches.
