Two more Russian universities will open their branches in Kazakhstan in the fall of 2022, QazMonitor reports citing the press service of the prime minister.
Moscow Engineering Physics Institute will open a campus in Almaty, while Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas will open theirs in Atyrau.
The course subjects that will be available in October will include “Protected High-Performance Computing Systems”, “Physics of Elementary Particles and Astrophysics”, “Search and Exploration of Oil and Gas”, “Development, Operation and Comprehensive Mechanization and Automation of Oil and Gas Fields”, and “Oil and Gas Transportation”.
200 grants have been allocated to the selected subject areas. The faculty will comprise professors and instructors from Russia.
Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek has noted that the opening of Russian university branches contributes to the internationalization of higher education in Kazakhstan.
At the start of the year, Kazakhstan set a goal of opening five branches of foreign universities by 2025. In February, the Kazakh ministry of education and the ministry of higher education of Russia signed a memorandum of understanding, as well as an agreement to create functioning branches of Kazakh high schools in Russia and Russian high schools in Kazakhstan.
