Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek discussed with the US Charge d'Affaires Judy Kuo the priorities of cooperation in the field of knowledge, QazMonitor reports referring to the press service of the ministry.
"We need to revive the interest in science among young people, to create an effective scientific environment in universities. For this purpose, we are ready to introduce the best world practices," Sayasat Nurbek said.
The minister mentioned sending 500 Kazakhstani scientists for internships at the world's best universities and opening five branches of world-leading universities in Kazakhstan among the key projects.
One of such projects is a branch of the University of Arizona in Petropavlovsk, which will receive its first students in September. According to the U.S. Charge d'Affaires in the Republic of Kazakhstan, opening a branch of an American university could be a good example of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United States in higher education and science.
We propose to create a working group, which will include representatives of Kazakhstan and the United States to discuss the implementation of the Fulbright program in Kazakhstan.
The Fulbright Program was founded in 1946 to promote mutual understanding between the American people and people worldwide. It aims to improve school teachers' qualifications, a student exchange program, stimulate interest in science, engineering, and mathematics among high school girls, and develop female leadership among students.
