How Much Money Do Kazakh School Students Get For Olympiad Wins?

Seven medals in physics and geography bring winners cash bonuses and grants

Kazakh school students continue to win medals at international olympiads. Following up on last week's news where students won six medals at the Mathematics Olympiad in Oslo, QazMonitor presents the latest results in geography and physics, citing the minister of enlightenment of the RK.

International Geography Olympiad (IGeO-2022)

Kazakh students brought home one gold and one bronze medal from the event.

Sanzhar Khamitov (Aktobe) won gold and Yerkebulan Tazabek (Shymkent) took the bronze for the national team. Khamitov's win marks the second gold medal in the history of Kazakhstan's participation at the prestigious Olympiad.

This year, the intellectual competition was organized by France. 216 schoolchildren from 54 countries of the world took part in it.

International Physics Olympiad (IPhO-2022)

One gold and four silver medals were won by Kazakh schoolchildren at the Olympiad held in Switzerland from 10th till 15th of July.

Our country was represented by five students from Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Pavlodar, and Atyrau. They competed against 368 peers from 75 countries. The students beat last year's results (five silver medals). 

Daniel Shatokhin became the gold medalist, and silver medals were awarded to Yersultan Pitebay, Vladimir Lim, Dinmukhammed Rakhimzhanov, and Rizabek Alpamys.

Perks and bonuses

The minister of enlightenment Askhat Aimagambetov wrote on his Facebook page about the rewards for the winners of the Olympiads.

By the order of the President, not only will there be substantial cash prizes granted but the children will also be admitted to universities without taking the United National Test. A high school student who wins a gold medal will receive a cash award of more than 4.5 million tenge, while more than 3 million tenge will be awarded for a silver medal and 1.5 million tenge for bronze. Teachers who prepared the students for the competition will also receive payments.
