The 23-year-old Kazakhstani athlete Elena Rybakina will receive 2 million pounds, which is over 1 billion tenge - for winning the prestigious tournament, but the tennis player will need to pay tax on her win, QazMonitor reports.

The question of where the athlete will pay tax on her cash prize was answered by the "Tennis Astana" organization.

"The payment of the prize fund of the Wimbledon tournament is made in Great Britain. Kazakh citizen Elena Rybakina will pay income tax on the prize money once, also in Great Britain. In Kazakhstan, the prize money will not be paid according to the Convention on Avoidance of Double Taxation, signed both by Kazakhstan and Great Britain," the organization explained.

In the UK, the tax for foreign athletes amounts to between 40 and 50% of the prize fund, Zakon.kz reported.

Earlier, we wrote that Kazakhstan's Yelena Rybakina won a historic victory at the Wimbledon tournament, having defeated the second top player of the world rating Ons Jabeur from Tunisia.
