Fire Breaks Out at Resorts Near Lake Alakol

The blaze that lasted nearly 6 hours was extinguished at 5 in the morning

A major fire broke out at one of the recreation centers on Lake Alakol, QazMonitor reports with reference to Tengrinews and the press service of the Ministry for Emergency Situations.

Strong winds spread it to neighboring bases, complicating the situation for the firefighters.

The fire started at night around 11:20 p.m.

As a result of the blaze on the coast of Lake Alakol, seven people required medical help. Four recreational centers were affected by the fire.

Through the joint efforts of firemen of East Kazakhstan region EMERCOM, local executive bodies, police officers and locals, the fire was extinguished at 5:40 a.m. on July 5. The estimated area affected was 3,000 square meters. Four recreation centers suffered from fire. 
Seven people received first aid but were not in need of hospitalization.

Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The fire involved 186 people and 29 units of vehicles from Akimats, the Emergency Situations Department of East Kazakhstan region, the Police Department, Tarbagatai National Park and the Emergency Situations Department of Almaty region.

"Extinguishing the fire was complicated by the wind that reached 10 meters per second. The fire instantly spread from one wooden house to another. Thanks to the prompt actions of the firefighters and all those involved, the fire was stopped," explained the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Operational headquarters was established and is currently working at the site.
