Kazakhstan will supply about 1 million tons of grain to Iran, according to the memorandum signed during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's recent visit to Iran, Sputnik.kz reports.

The Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan stated that the supply of crops will be allocated from the harvest of 2022-2023.

The countries also made agreements concerning the transportation of wheat and other agricultural products. The transit of Kazakh wheat and other agricultural goods will pass through Iran without additional duties and charges, the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development reports.

The memorandum on Kazakh-Iranian cooperation in trade and transit of agricultural products was signed on June 19 at a meeting of the presidents of Kazakhstan and Iran in Tehran.

"In accordance with the memorandum, Iran will provide free transit of Kazakh wheat and other agricultural products through its territory, without additional duties and fees. The sides will encourage the import of wheat produced in Kazakhstan into Iran through SWAP operations and, on the other hand, the export of the same amount of wheat from Iran's outbound borders," the ministry said in a statement.

Kazakhstan intends to supply Iran with the following products: cereals (wheat, barley, corn), oilseeds (flax seeds), vegetable oils (sunflower oil), confectionery, meat (lamb, beef) and meat products.

In turn, Iran will supply Kazakhstan with vegetables (potatoes, onions, carrots, cucumbers), fruits (apples, pears, quince, dates, figs, pineapples), dairy products and fishery products.
