According to the recent Internet Accessibility Index ranking for 2022, Kazakhstan ranked eighth for the lowest Internet prices for mobile Internet. Kazakhs pay only $0.8 per 1Gb of mobile data (this is enough data to download a movie), indicating a continued drop from last year's $0.9. For comparison, the most expensive gigabyte is in Equatorial Guinea, where users have to pay $36.6.
Our country ranks even higher in prices for fixed-line broadband connections. Kazakhstan has the fifth cheapest internet with an average of $10.8 per month. The top four countries are Ukraine, Russian Federation, Bhutan, and Romania.
The rating shows that such price amounts to 1.5% of the average monthly income in the country.
Analysts also noted a high level of mobile Internet coverage in Kazakhstan - which is 96%. Kazakhstan is the only country with a large, expansive territory to achieve such high rates.
In parallel to the improvement in Internet accessibility, quality is also on the rise. The Internet Accessibility Index report noted that Kazakhstan's telecommunications sector is one of the most advanced in Central Asia.
Earlier, QazMonitor wrote about the monthly Internet consumption in Kazakhstan.
Internet Accessibility Index 2022 lists 164 different countries, down from 169 in 2021, using 10 different ranking factors - including average internet speeds, the cost and affordability of home broadband deals, and the cost of 1GB of mobile data - to find the world's most and least connected countries.
