Two hundred thirty-four school students from Kazakhstan participated in the World Gymnasiade for the first time, Kazinform reports.

So far, they have managed to win 14 medals in 18 different sports. Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askhat Aimagambetov shared this announcement on his official Facebook page.
The national team has eight gold medals in judo, taekwondo and swimming, three silver in track and field and judo, and three bronze medals in judo and taekwondo. The students competed with more than 3,500 youngsters from 70 countries.
“Participation in the World Gymnasiade contributes to the development of school sports and school leagues,” said Sagdat Sadykov, the director of the National Scientific and Practical Center for Physical Culture of the Ministry of Education and Science.
The Gymnasiade, or World School Sports Games, is an international multi-sport event for youth from 6 to 18 years old. This year competitions are held in nine cities of Normandy in 20 sports from May 14-22.
