On May 18, 2022, the National Bank of Kazakhstan released commemorative coins in honor of the late Kazakh singer and composer Batyrkhan Shukenov on what would have been his 60th birthday.
The special collection was named “Street art. BATYR BEINESI” and marks the first collaborative project of the National Bank in support of contemporary youth art.
The coin value of 500 tenge is made of 925/1000 sterling silver using color printing technology for an edition of 5,000 pieces. The design of the coin features the graffiti "Batyr's Wall" by REPAS street art team, who granted the copyright to the NBK free of charge. Silver coins are issued in souvenir packaging with NBK numbered quality certificates in Kazakh, Russian and English languages.
Batyrkhan Shukenov, born 1962, was a singer, songwriter and saxophonist, who rose to fame as a soloist of the pop group "A'Studio" in 1987-2000. He was an Honored Art Worker of Kazakhstan and a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in Kazakhstan. Shukenov died of a heart attack at the age of 53 on April 18, 2015.
