The Ministry of Health has no plans to bring back quarantine measures and the mask regime in the country despite the emergence of a new variant of the coronavirus “Stealth Omicron”.

No quarantine, no masks

The department head Azhar Giniyat stated this at a briefing held at the Central Communications Service on Wednesday, May 18.

"This type of coronavirus infection ("Stealth Omicron" - B) has a lighter course than Delta." But it is dangerous in the sense that it spreads quickly, leading to the recurrence of the disease. That's why today we're seeing a spread across the country. We don't expect it to lead to any quarantine measures, however. At the moment, all quarantine measures have been lifted. We are mainly carrying out prophylactic measures among the population." 

She also stressed that currently there are no grounds for introducing a mask regime all over the country. “Everything will depend on the further development of the epidemiological situation.”

The new variant of the Stealth-Omicron coronavirus has been detected in 12 regions of Kazakhstan. The cases are mainly concentrated in Almaty and Nur-Sultan. The head of the ministry attributed this to the increased flow of migration and international travel.

She also reported that all of the restrictions have now been lifted by the IMC, since "there is a stabilization of the epidemiological situation in Kazakhstan.

So far, about ten cases of coronavirus infection are registered every day, with a recovery rate of 98%.
