Baikonur is hosting an international Class A WT taekwondo tournament for the first time in its history, Kazinform reports.
Over 800 athletes from Kazakhstan, Belarus, Iran, Uzbekistan, and other countries are participating in this event. The tournament will run through April 30.
During the grand opening of the tournament, there was a parade of participating teams where guests and judges were introduced. The chief referee of the competition was the judge of the international category Margulan Aday, and the chief secretary - Akan Ibrashev. In his welcome speech, Konstantin Busygin, head of Baikonur city administration, thanked the guests, organizers, sponsors of the tournament and wished all participants good luck.
The evening show on day 1 ended with the Almaty-based junior taekwondo team taking first place along with the main cash prize. Junior teams from Baikonur, Iran and Belarus finished second. Another taekwondo team from Almaty’s local sports college placed third.
