Eutelsat OneWeb, the low Earth orbit satellite communications company, will start offering its services in Kazakhstan this year, QazMonitor reports citing the Ministry of Digital and Space.
What happened: On April 30, during a meeting of the board on space industry development for 2023-2029, the Space Ministry announced that the Kokterek Space Communications Center is nearing completion of a gateway for the OneWeb communications network. As a result, 328 villages will have broadband Internet via satellite connection.
OneWeb: A subsidiary of Eutelsat Group, this London-based company provides broadband satellite internet services from a low Earth orbit. They operate a constellation of 542 out of 648 small satellites planned by January 2023, aiming to deliver high-speed broadband to rural and isolated areas. Kazakhstan is one of their clients, having signed a deal with OneWeb in March 2021.
