The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan has developed a Comprehensive Plan for water facilities restoration until 2030. On April 13, Moldir Abdualieva, the ministry's official representative, revealed details of the plan during the briefing at the Central Communications Service, QazMonitor reports citing the CCS.
Commissioned by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the plan will develop water supply infrastructure in Kazakhstan, including:
Construction of 57 new reservoirs
Reconstruction of 133 hydraulic structures
Reconstruction of more than 7,000 km of irrigation systems
Reconstruction of 1,200 km of group water supply system
Drilling over 3,600 wells
To date, submittals have been developed for 114 related projects.
To combat water losses at transportation, the plan also includes the reconstruction of over 14,000 km of worn-out canals of the irrigation system.
The project is proposed to be implemented in three stages. The first stage is scheduled for 2024-2025 and involves reconstructing 337 canals across 3,500 km.
