On April 8, Yerassyl Saipash, a senior officer of the Ministry for Emergency Situations provided an update on the flood situation in Kazakhstan, QazMonitor reports citing the press service of Central Communications Service.
“Water has been diverted from over 1,739 residential buildings and 1,743 courtyard areas. 16,375 people, over 1,600 pieces of equipment, 377 water pumping units, 81 watercraft, and 15 aircraft are involved in rescue operations,”
Seven regions continue to grapple with flooding — the Atyrau (declared a state of emergency on April 7), Aktobe, Akmola, Kostanay, East Kazakhstan, North Kazakhstan, and Pavlodar regions.
On April 8, at 11:19 am, the Ministry for Emergency Situations reported the following numbers covering the period since the flooding began.
75,982 people have been rescued, including 18,681 children
7,203 people are housed in temporary accommodation centers, of which 2,794 are children
65 settlements are left without transport communication. Local authorities maintain communication and have created the necessary food and medicine supplies
3,745 private residential buildings and 421 courtyard areas remain submerged
Over 69,000 livestock were evacuated
126,535 kg of humanitarian aid was delivered to the affected regions
More than 7 million cubic meters of meltwater were pumped out, and about 993,000 flood barrier bags were laid
146 instances of road overflows and 105 road washouts are being monitored, including 4 bridges and 101 roadbeds
In the Kostanay region, the Karatomar reservoir is at 99% capacity with a potential discharge increase
In the North Kazakhstan region, the Sergeyev and Petropavlovsk reservoirs are at full capacity
In the Akmola region, the Astana reservoir has switched to transit mode. The Seletinsky reservoir is at 99.4% capacity
