What Agro Products Kazakhstan Eyes to Export to UK?

The Kazakh Minister of Agriculture and the UK Ambassador discussed the harmonization of veterinary certificates

On April 4th, Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov convened a meeting with the UK Ambassador to Kazakhstan Kathy Leach. The discussions primarily revolved around export certificates and their harmonization to facilitate further cooperation and the supply of various products from the UK, QazMonitor reports citing the Ministry's press service.

Figures and interests: Minister Saparov highlighted that by the end of 2023, the trade turnover of agricultural products between Kazakhstan and Great Britain had reached $59 million, marking a significant increase of 72% compared to 2022 ($34.3 million).

Saparov emphasized Kazakhstan's substantial potential in producing and exporting high-quality, environmentally friendly organic agricultural products. He expressed the Kazakh business community's keen interest in exporting a diverse range of goods to the UK, including fish, aquaculture products, sturgeon caviar, meat, poultry, dairy products, as well as camel and mare milk powder (saumala).

Certificate harmonization: Additionally, Saparov mentioned that the Ministry of Agriculture had received veterinary and sanitary requirements from the UK for certain types of animal-origin products.

  • The Ministry aims to initiate the harmonization process for dairy products and horse meat.

  • Agreement has been reached on the veterinary certificate format for exporting cattle semen from the UK to the EAEU countries.

  • The veterinary services are working on five additional forms of veterinary certificates.

Ambassador Leach assured her commitment to addressing the concerns raised by Minister Saparov, underlining the UK's keen interest in fostering cooperation with Kazakhstan.
