KAIST Shows Interest to Open Branch in Kazakhstan

On April 1, the Minister of Higher Education met with KAIST President in Daejeon, South Korea

Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) expressed interest in opening a branch in Kazakhstan, QazMonitor reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

What happened: On April 1, Kazakhstan's Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek met with the President of KAIST Kwang Hyung Lee in Daejeon. The Kazakh delegation and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Korea Nurgali Arystanov, initiators and coordinators of this project Dana Moldakulova and Daniyar Anuarula took part in the meeting.

Agenda: The parties discussed joint strategic cooperation and opening a branch of KAIST University in Kazakhstan. KAIST President Kwang Hyun Lee expressed interest in opening a branch in the country and offered to conduct a feasibility study to evaluate the project. The participants confirmed readiness to cooperate further and actively work on the project in the near future.

Why it’s important: The Ministry reports that opening a branch of KAIST in Kazakhstan will be a significant step in the development of education and science in Kazakhstan, as well as strengthening international scientific and technological ties.
