On March 28–29, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will embark on a working visit to the People's Republic of China, where he will participate in the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), Akorda press service reports.
Trip Agenda: The visit's itinerary includes a series of meetings between President Tokayev and Chinese leadership, representatives from international organizations, and key figures from major Chinese companies.
About the forum: The agenda of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) this year covers Asia-focused topics like investment, financial cooperation, and Belt and Road Initiative achievements. Additionally, discussions will explore AI, new energy vehicles, and global challenges such as trade fragmentation and climate crisis mitigation.
Under the theme "Asia and the World: Common Challenges, Shared Responsibilities," the conference aims to promote economic integration in Asia and foster global cooperation for peace and prosperity, emphasizing collective action and unity among nations, as stated by BFA Secretary General Li Baodong.
Previous visit: President Tokayev visited Beijing on October 17–18 last year. During this official visit, he engaged in discussions with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and Chairman Zhao Leji. Additionally, he participated in the III High-Level Forum "One Belt, One Road" and met with the heads of major Chinese companies.
Why it matters: On March 26, President Tokayev received Erkin Tuniyaz, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the CPC XUAR of the PRC, Chairman of the People’s Government of the XUAR. During the meeting, President Tokayev emphasized the importance of cooperation between Kazakhstan and China.
"I was recently in Urumqi, and we had very good talks about the prospects of Kazakhstan's cooperation with China as a whole and, of course, with Xinjiang Province. We are closely monitoring China's economic growth, noting the dynamic development and the results that have been achieved in this process. China is one of the major countries in the world in terms of economic development. Therefore, for us, a neighboring state, cooperation is beneficial and necessary. As for Kazakhstan, we will do our best to ensure that this cooperation develops successfully,"
