The Kazakh delegation in Kuala Lumpur met with Malaysian aviation authorities to explore the potential expansion of flight routes for AirAsia X and Malaysia Airlines to Kazakh cities, utilizing the Fifth Freedom of The Air, QazMonitor reports citing the Ministry of Transport.
What happened: Chairwoman of the Civil Aviation Committee Saltanat Tompiyeva held a meeting with Norazman Mahmud, CEO of the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, regarding the prospects of air travel between the two countries. The meeting was also attended by the management of AirAsia X and Malaysia Airlines.
Background: The meeting was held ahead of the launch of the Almaty–Kuala Lumpur route, scheduled to start sometime in March of this year. The capital of Malaysia is now among the 42 direct destinations accessible from Almaty International Airport. Currently, the airport is in the process of constructing a new terminal, expected to be finished by June 2024. Once completed, the terminal aims to accommodate up to 14 million passengers annually.
