The Lower House of Parliament is considering a bill that would allow households, SMEs, and owner-operated farms to generate and sell power, QazMonitor reports.

What it means: The proposed bill outlines the measures that will enable citizens to generate power for personal consumption and sell any excess to local power supply companies. Under this legislation, each citizen will have the opportunity to install renewable energy source technology with a capacity limit of 200 kilowatts.

The proceedings will follow the standard operation. That is, if the power supply company purchases its supplies from an individual, it will itself become a revenue agent. When paying to an individual, the company will withhold and transfer taxes to the [republican] budget.

clarified Yerzhan Birzhanov, Vice Minister of Finance, at the plenary session of the Lower House.
