On February 14, as part of the official visit to Qatar, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had a meeting with the owners of the Qatari company Power International Holding (PIH), Moutaz Al-Khayyat and Ramez Al-Khayyat. The interlocutors discussed the prospects for cooperation in various sectors of the economy, QazMonitor reports citing the Akorda press service.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that productive partnership has become the driving force behind investment cooperation between Kazakhstan and Qatar.
The owners of the PIH informed the President about plans to build gas processing plants in Kashagan, a combined-cycle gas turbine power plant in the Kyzylorda region. The company intends to participate in the construction of a new compressor station and Beineu-Bozoi-Shymkent and Aktobe-Kostanay gas pipelines.
The Head of State emphasized that these projects are important for ensuring Kazakhstan’s long-term energy security. He also welcomed Power International Holding’s plans to enter the telecommunications sector of Kazakhstan.
The President also had a meeting with Mohammed Nasser Al-Hajri, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nebras Power. The parties discussed the prospects for cooperation in the energy sector and investing in renewable energy sources.
Tokayev said that Kazakhstan attaches great importance to achieving carbon neutrality. In this regard, he highly appreciated Nebras Power's interest in the development of renewable energy in the country.
Mr. Al-Hajri shared plans for the implementation of a hydropower project in Kazakhstan in partnership with Samruk-Kazyna JSC. The parties signed a corresponding agreement.
The participants discussed cooperation in methane emissions reduction, especially in the energy sector. The President invited Mr. Al-Hajri to take part in the upcoming Astana International Forum in June.
