Kazakhstan Finishes 2024 Winter Youth Olympics with 3 Medals

The national team took home one gold and two bronze medals

On February 1, the national team concluded their run in the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics in the South Korean city of Gangwon with three medals, one gold and two bronze, QazMonitor reports citing the National Olympic Committee.

On the closing day, the cross-country skiing team, consisting of Berik Boranbayev, Milana Mamedova, Violetta Mitropolskaya, and Aubakir Totanov, participated in the mixed team relay, finishing in 16th place. Germany secured the first position, followed by France with the silver, and Swiss skiers secured the third spot.

In total, Kazakh athletes won three medals at the event – Ilya Mizernykh earned gold in ski jumping, Polina Omelchuk secured third place in short-track speed skating, and the men’s ice hockey team clinched third place in the 3-on-3 tournament. With these results, Kazakhstan secured 20th place in the overall standings out of 30 national teams. The leaders of the medal table are Team Italy with eleven gold medals, Germany with nine gold medals, and South Korea with seven gold medals.
