On January 25, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan and the University of Oxford signed an agreement to introduce Kazakh language courses at Oxford University, QazMonitor reports citing the Ministry.

A delegation from Kazakhstan, led by the Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek, along with rectors of Kazakh universities, visited the University of Oxford. The visit involved exploring exclusive ancient manuscripts relevant to Kazakhstan at the Bodleian Library and a comprehensive university tour.

The latter part of the event featured Minister Nurbek presenting the inaugural edition of the Oxford Qazaq Dictionary, emphasizing the significance of language as a cultural asset.

Additionally, the minister engaged in discussions with Maia Chankseliani, Associate Professor of Comparative and International Education at the University of Oxford. The parties discussed three crucial areas: science internship programs, consultation on centers of academic excellence, and advisory services in higher education policy.

In December 2023, the Kazakh-English Oxford Qazaq Dictionary, developed over four years in collaboration with specialists from the Institute of Linguistics named after Akhmet Baitursynuly, was unveiled. Covering over 60,000 words across 1300 pages, the dictionary encompasses the latest lexical developments in both languages, incorporating updates from contemporary culture and science.
