To double the volume of agricultural gross output within five years, the government has developed a Roadmap, outlining measures for each sector of the agriculture industry. The plan was approved following a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov on January 25 in Astana, QazMonitor reports citing primeminister.kz.

The authorities aim to diversify crop distribution among the sowing areas, reducing the share of water-intensive crops while increasing the production of profitable plants, such as oilseeds. The plan involves the implementation of water-saving technologies, an increase in fertilizer application, and the modernization of agricultural machinery.

The Roadmap also includes steps to boost the headcount of cattle and small ruminants, expand meat and grain processing, launch dairy farms, and other facilities. The government anticipates doubling the gross output of the agriculture industry to ₸17 trillion (as of January 25, 2024, $37.9 billion) by 2028.

For each region, the indicators are outlined, taking into account the available growth reserves and development potential. It is necessary to reduce monocropping and water-intensive crops, expand the cultivation of in-demand crops, and increase the application of mineral fertilizers.

Smailov also stressed the necessity to raise the share of elite crop seeds, accelerate the renewal of machinery and tractor fleets, and expand the implementation of water-saving technologies. Additionally, he instructed to conduct monthly monitoring of Roadmap implementation, with regular updates to be presented at government meetings on a quarterly basis.
