Deputies of the Mazhilis - the lower chamber of the Parliament -  have endorsed regulations aimed at curbing tobacco consumption as part of broader health-related amendments, which stipulate a complete ban on vaping devices in Kazakhstan, QazMonitor reports.

"The regulations encompass a complete ban on the import, production, sale, and distribution of electronic consumption systems (vapes)," stated Deputy Guldara Nurumova during the Majilis plenary session.

As specified, the proposed legislation introduces criminal liability for the involvement in vape-related activities. The maximum penalties include up to 50 days of arrest for sales, up to 2 years of imprisonment for import and distribution, and up to 5 years for the same offenses committed by a criminal group, on a large scale, or repeatedly.

Additionally, the document eliminates the mandatory application of clinical protocols in the provision of medical care.
