Nomad Astana Wins IIHF Continental Cup in Cardiff

This marks the second gold for Kazakh hockey clubs, following Kokshetau’s Arlan clinching the title in 2019

On January 12-14, Nomad Astana claimed their first title at the 2023-2024 IIHF Continental Cup, defeating the Cardiff Devils 5:2, the Herning Blue Fox 7:2, and GKS Katowice 3:1 in the Final Round in Welsh Cardiff, QazMonitor reports.

The farm team of Barys HC, Nomad powered through all three matches, securing the trophy ahead of schedule by the end of the second match. This victory marks the second gold for Kazakh clubs, with Arlan Kokshetau clinching the title of champions at the 2018-2019 IIHF Continental Cup in Belfast.

Overall, the domestic hockey scene has earned six medals at the IIHF Continental Cup – two gold, three silver, and one bronze. This result places Kazakh hockey clubs fifth in the overall rankings, trailing behind Russia, Switzerland, Belarus, and Slovakia.
