Three school teams from Kazakhstan participated in the FIRST Tech Challenge robotics competition at the Nusantara Regional in the Indonesian city of Depok, winning seven awards across several categories, QazMonitor reports citing the Ministry of Education.

On January 5-7, Depok hosted 150 young roboticists forming fifteen teams from Indonesia, Kazakhstan, and Malaysia. Kazakhstan was represented by teams from Almaty’s Abay Republican Public Boarding School for Gifted Children (Team Antares) and Public School No. 124 (Team 124), as well as Semey’s Shakarim Multidisciplinary Gymnasium No. 5 (Team Shanyraq).

The teams received the following awards:

Team 124:

  • First place in Control Award

  • Third place in Think Award

  • Third place in Connect Award

Team Antares:

  • First place in Think Award

  • Second place in Finalist Award

  • Third place in Control Award

Team Shanyraq:

  • Third place in Robot Game

Bekzat Amanov, coach of Team 124, noted that these competitions provide an opportunity to exchange experiences.

”During the championship, we were pleasantly surprised to learn that the strongest teams, selected for the world stage, participated in this championship. These teams have four to five years of experience in robotics, and our high school students, who only joined the competition this year, performed at the same level as them. It was very exciting when our students made it to the final games and received high marks from the judges," said Amanov.
