Kazakhstan to Ban Import of CKD Right-Hand Drive Cars

The order has been issued by the Ministry of Industry and Construction

On January 5, the Ministry of Industry and Construction published the order banning the import of Completely Knocked Down (CKD) right-hand drive passenger vehicles for six months, starting January 15, QazMonitor reports.

The document provides exceptions for various vehicle types, including:

  • Off-road vehicles (two-wheel or four-wheel drive), featuring a motorcycle saddle, manual steering levers on the two front wheels, off-road tires, and automatic or manually controlled transmission providing reverse drive;

  • Vehicles with an engine displacement of more than 1000 cm³ but not more than 1500 cm³;

  • Vehicles with an engine displacement of more than 1500 cm³ but not more than 2500 cm³;

  • Vehicles with an engine displacement of more than 1500 cm³ but not more than 3000 cm³;

  • Vehicles with an engine displacement not exceeding 1500 cm³;

  • Vehicles with an engine displacement of more than 2500 cm³;

  • Vehicles with an engine displacement of more than 3000 cm³;

  • Vehicles powered by both a spark-ignition internal combustion piston engine and an electric engine, except those that can be charged by connection to an external source of electricity.
