iPhone began to mark incoming calls with the international codes "+77" and "+76" from Kazakhstan. Bagdat Musin, Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry, announced this on his official Facebook page, Tengrinews reports.
“Together with Apple, we worked out the issue that was brought up to me on many occasions. From now on, iPhone will label an incoming call with the international codes ‘+77’ and ‘+76’ as ‘Kazakhstan’. I want to highlight that Apple processed our request as quickly as possible."
He added that the U.S. company has solved the problem for the iPhone 6 and later devices with the release of iOS 14.
Up until now, Apple devices had labelled all calls with numbers beginning with the prefix "+7" as "Russia".
Earlier in September 2021, Mussin announced that the telephone code in Kazakhstan will change from +7 to +997. The transition is scheduled for January 2023. The new and old codes can be used in parallel for two years. Full transition is expected from 2025.
