Which International Organizations Will Kazakhstan Chair in 2024?

The upcoming year will also mark several significant anniversaries in the history of our country

In an interview with Egemen Qazaqstan, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that in 2024, Kazakhstan will play a prominent role by hosting several representative summits and forums, as well as chairing several key international organizations.

The President emphasized that our country will continue to uphold a balanced foreign policy in the coming year, taking the helm of several international organizations, including:

  • Shanghai Cooperation Organization

  • Collective Security Treaty Organization

  • Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia

  • Organization of Turkic States

  • International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea

  • Islamic Organization for Food Security

Tokayev further emphasized the significance of the upcoming 5th World Nomad Games, scheduled to take place in Kazakhstan. The event aims to promote national sports and a healthy lifestyle, while also fostering the expansion of cultural and humanitarian ties among Turkic nations.

In 2024, Kazakhstan is set to commemorate several significant anniversaries, including:

  • 125th anniversary of the geologist Kanysh Satpayev;

  • 100th anniversary of the WWII veterans Sagadat Nurmagambetov and Rakhymzhan Koshkarbayev;

  • 800th anniversary of the formation of the Golden Horde.

Tokayev noted that the establishment of the Golden Horde by the eldest son of Genghis Khan, Jochi, showcases the centuries-old roots of our country. In this context, the President highlighted the preparation of a multi-volume research project on the history of our country, which will be finalized this year. Over 200 domestic scientists and about 60 foreign specialists are involved in the research.
