15-Year-Old Kazakh Prodigy Draws Ian Nepomniachtchi at World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships

The World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships, taking place in Samarkand from December 26 to 30, witnessed Kazakh chess player Ernur Amangeldy securing a draw against the vice-world chess champion Ian Nepomniachtchi in the second-round match, QazMonitor reports.

Ernur Amangeldy, a 15-year-old chess prodigy with a rating of 2012, faced Russian Grandmaster Nepomniachtchi, who holds a rating of 2778. Playing black, Amangeldy concluded the rapid match against Nepomniachtchi with a draw.

In April this year, Nepomniachtchi suffered a defeat against Chinese player Ding Liren in a World Championship Match in Astana.

Notably, the championship features a prize fund of $1,000,000.
