Russian multinational technology company Yandex has transferred the 'yandex.kz' domain name to servers in Kazakhstan. The company has installed all the necessary equipment in the country, and after successful load testing, the 'yandex.kz' domain was officially transferred to local servers, QazMonitor reports citing the Ministry of Digital and Space.
The Minister of Digital and Space Bagdat Mussin noted that the transfer means the data of local users will be processed in Kazakhstan and will not be subject to the laws of foreign countries.
On August 9, 2023, the 'yandex.kz' domain was suspended in Kazakhstan due to a violation of national legislation. The domain stored data of Kazakh users outside of Kazakhstan, exposing them to potential security breaches.
"Following activities conducted, Yandex received a letter regarding the extension of the terms for transferring the 'yandex.kz' domain to the territory of our country. Yandex expressed readiness to comply with all the requirements of the legislation of Kazakhstan. Temporary access restriction was implemented due to the failure to respond to the Ministry's request dated July 25 this year," explained the Ministry’s representative.
