One of the world’s leading universities, the City University of Hong Kong (CityU), has agreed to open a branch at Satbayev University, launching a dual-degree program for Kazakh students, QazMonitor reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Science and Higher and Education.

The education format will offer local students the 3+1+1 degree program, providing them with the opportunity to receive two degrees at once: a bachelor's and a master's, as well as to spend at least a year in Hong Kong, studying at the CityU campus.

The universities plan to develop joint educational programs in materials science and artificial intelligence. Satbayev University scientists are also expected to participate in new research programs at CityU, which will be launched next year.

The signing ceremony was attended by Vice Minister of Science and Higher Education, Darkhan Akhmed-Zaki, and Chairman of the Executive Board – Rector of Satbayev University, Meiram Begentayev, for the Kazakh side, and CityU’s Council Chairman, Lester Huang, and Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor, from Hong Kong.

In his video address to the participants, Minister of Science and Higher Education, Sayasat Nurbek, noted the importance of cooperation with CityU to create a research hub in engineering education and science at Satbayev University.

"The unique experience and history of CityU show how, in a short period of time, it is possible to develop an effective model of higher education adapted to the requirements of the modern labor market and what successes can be achieved by developing science and innovation," said Nurbek.

Our agreement is aimed at establishing a strong partnership between the two universities, allowing us to expand the boundaries of cooperation in the field of science and education. Indeed, it is based on our shared vision recognizing the value of international cooperation in higher education.
