Salary Trends in Kazakhstan across Regions and Industries in Q3 2023

The top three highest-paid occupations are subsoil use, financial activities, information and communications

In the third quarter of 2023, the average monthly salary of workers in the country amounted to 350.5 thousand tenge, a 16.9% increase in nominal terms compared to the previous year. Real growth, including inflation, stood at 3.5%, as reported by finprom.kz.

For comparison, in the same period last year, the average monthly salary was 299.8 thousand tenge.

In the regional context, the Atyrau region recorded the highest average monthly salary at 602.4 thousand tenge, marking a 14.3% increase in nominal terms and a 2.8% increase in real terms compared to the previous year.

Among the leading regions, notable increases were observed in the Mangystau region (519.1 thousand tenge, plus 2.2% in real terms) and Ulytau region (471.3 thousand tenge, plus 5.4%).

The lowest average monthly salary was observed among residents of the Turkestan region: only 248.9 thousand tenge, reflecting a 1.8% increase over the year. Zhambyl and North-Kazakhstan regions also ranked among the three lowest.

In terms of industries, the highest average monthly wages were traditionally received by workers in mining and quarrying, amounting to 756.7 thousand tenge, a 16.5% increase in nominal terms compared to the previous year.

Financial and insurance activities (668.9 thousand tenge) and information and communications (525.8 thousand tenge) were among the three highest-paid industries.

Some of the lowest salaries in the country were recorded in the arts, entertainment and recreation, agriculture, forestry and fisheries, as well as water supply and sanitation.
