In January-October 2023, the volume of Kazakh oil exports from the port of Aktau reached 2,8 million tons, indicating a period-over-period increase of 54%, or 981,000 tons, QazMonitor reports citing the press service of KazTransOil.
The oil company highlighted that the volume of exports to the Azerbaijani port of Baku experienced a significant increase, reaching 1,123,000 tons, indicating a surge of 964,000 tons. At the same time, the Kazakh port shipped 1,676,000 tons of oil in the direction of Russia’s Makhachkala, marking a 17,000-ton increase compared to the same period the previous year.
In 2022, the national oil and gas company KazMunayGas and the state oil company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) agreed to boost oil transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, developing the capacities for transporting 1.5 million tons of oil annually from the Tengiz field toward the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline.
