A 17-year-old compound archer from Kazakhtsan’s national archery team, Andrey Tyutyun won the gold medal in the compound individual archery category at the Asian Archery Championships that took place in Bangkok on November 3-10, QazMonitor reports citing the press service of the Akimat of Akmola region.
In the semifinals, Andrey Tyutyun defeated Abhishek Verma, the World Championship silver medalist from India, and in the final, he triumphed over the eight-time world champion Kim Jongho from Korea.
This achievement marks a historic moment for Kazakhstan as it clinches its first gold at a continental archery championship.
Additionally, Kazakhstan’s recurve men's team, comprised of Ilfat Abdullin, Alexandr Yeremenko, and Dauletkeldi Zhangbyrbay made history at the Bangkok 2023 Asian Archery Championships by becoming the first national recurve side to take an Olympic team spot at a continental championships, after the qualifying procedure was updated in 2022.
