The new terminal facilities at the Port of Kuryk have commenced operations. This information was revealed during a meeting of the operational working group on the development of cross-border hubs in the Government, presided over by Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin, QazMonitor reports.

In late September 2023, the first batch of cargo was received at the general cargo terminal of the multifunctional marine terminal Sarzha in the Port of Kuryk, located in the Mangystau region. By the end of October, a vessel carrying 4.5 thousand tonnes of metal cargo is scheduled for dispatch.

The Sarzha Multifunctional Marine Terminal construction project in the Port of Kuryk has been ongoing for several years, spearheaded by the Kazakh developer SEMURG INVEST. All land works have been completed, and the project includes the construction of access railway lines, two berths, a general cargo terminal, and multiple other terminals for grain, general and liquid cargoes, and a universal terminal. Additionally, a transport and logistics complex will be constructed.

Nurzhan Marabaev, General Director of SEMURG INVEST LLP, highlighted during the meeting that the completion of all terminals of Sarzha MMT will increase the Middle Corridor's throughput capacity by 10 million tonnes annually by 2030.

Simultaneously, work is in progress for the construction of a container hub at the Aktau seaport, which is a part of the Caspian transport and logistics hub. This project will be established within the special economic zone "Aktau Seaport," with a designated land plot of 19 hectares. The construction is expected to conclude in the second quarter of 2025. The launch of this facility will enhance cargo traffic along the Trans-Caspian international transport route and redirect some transit cargoes from China to Europe. It will also boost the development of the container line "Turkmenbashi - Aktau - PRC."

Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin remarked, "The North-South international corridor, an integral component of the Eurasian transport network, holds promising prospects.”

This area supports the development of Eurasian industrial cooperation and positions Kazakhstan as a logistics hub, in alignment with the objectives set by the Head of State. Considering the evolving climate and environmental conditions in the Caspian Sea and the emergence of new capacities, the Port of Kuryk possesses significant potential to play a crucial role in reconfiguring the network of transport and logistics routes. It is undoubtedly the future.
