The Ministry of Tourism and Sports held a review meeting on the outcome of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou with the heads of national sports federations, QazMonitor reports citing the ministry’s press service.

The representatives from the Greco-Roman, Freestyle, and Women's wrestling federations were the first to brief Sports Minister Yermek Marzhikpayev on their current status. The Minister highlighted the subpar performance of our athletes, underscoring deficiencies in their physical preparation.

While our athletes can [put up a] fight during the first round, they appear exhausted in the second. The absence of individual training programs is evident. We must establish a pool of potential medalists for the 2024 Summer Olympics and provide them with all necessary support.

The Swimming Federation reported the successful performance of both the women's and men’s water polo teams, each securing a bronze medal in the competition. The federation pointed out that, one year before Hangzhou, the national team underwent substantial changes with the departure of several key players, affecting the overall performance. However, the team is now preparing to qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics during the upcoming World Aquatics Swimming World Cup.

The head coach of the swimming team, Iliya Gussakov, shared his vision for the upcoming season. He highlighted the youth of the team, with members averaging 16-17 years old, and expressed high expectations for their performance.
