Kazakhstan Finishes with 80 Medals in Asian Games

Team Kazakhstan secured 11th place in the overall standings, 5th in total medal count

Kazakhstan's sports delegation wrapped up the Hangzhou Asian Games finishing 11th in the overall standings with a total of 80 medals, QazMonitor reports.

The national team secured ten gold, 22 silver, and 48 bronze medals. Hence, Kazakhstan made a mark by joining the ranks of the top five countries in the total medal count.

Notable achievements included Sofya Berultseva's gold in the over 68 kg category in karate, along with Didar Amirali and Daniar Yuldashev’s bronze medals in their weight categories (up to 67 kg and up to 84 kg respectively).

The gymnastics team contributed two medals to the country's tally and Kazakhstan's chess players won bronze medals.

In the overall standings, Asian Games in Hangzhou concluded with China securing the top spot with 201 gold medals, followed by Japan (52), South Korea (42), India (28), and Uzbekistan (22 golds).

Hangzhou hosted the largest Asian Games from September 23 until October 8. Delayed for a year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Games featured nearly 12,000 athletes from 45 nations and territories competing for 481 gold medals.
