Almaty is set to become the regional hub of a leading South Korean medical conglomerate Seegene (SMF) in Central Asia. The agreement was reached at the meeting of Akim Erbolat Dossaev with representatives of the company during his working visit to Seoul, QazMonitor reports citing Almaty Akimat.

Seegene intends to invest nearly $30 million in the city’s healthcare sector. The collaboration entails the construction of a new clinic, modernization of clinical laboratories, studying and implementing the Korean healthcare model, along with other strategic projects.

"Today, healthcare worldwide is gradually shifting from a treatment model to diagnostics. This is a more effective way to protect the health of citizens against diseases. As the pandemic has shown, the world is facing new challenges: the countries that are prepared for them and focus on equipping medical centers with modern laboratories and conducting research will be competitive," said Erbolat Dossaev.
